We only had an evening and overnight stop planned for Joburg, cut shorter by the delay in arriving, but we still managed to squeeze in a trip to the Wombles restaurant that a colleague of Mark's had recommended we try out. The sun had already set by the time we arrived in Joburg so the cocktails by sunset were cancelled. The taxi ride to the restaurant was an eye opener. We had just spent a week in the open bush where we were cut off from internet, mobile phones, TV, traffic, noise so it felt like we had been teleported into another world altogether.

After 5 nights, 10 games drives, lots of animals, loads of photos, plenty of food, and relaxation in abundance, it was time to head back to Hoedspruit airport for our domestic flight to Johannesburg. After a 4 hour delay, and much chaos in between due to 69 people expecting to board the 50 seater plane, we eventually took off and waved goodbye to the bush, and the 19 passengers left behind, oops.
We had 2 game drives each day: a 3 hour drive before breakfast and a 4 hour drive before dinner. The Ranger was keen for us to see 'The Big 5', which are the top 5 most dangerous animals - lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.
And so the adventure begins...
We'll be staying in Johannesburg for one night on Wed 24th Feb. A friend recommended two things to do in Joburg if you only have one night!
First Stop - Kruger. An overnight flight to South Africa, arriving on Feb 19th, followed by a quick transfer to Hoedspruit and check-in at the Gomo Gomo Game Lodge. We travel back to Johannesburg on Wed 24th for one night before leaving for Hong Kong.
