And so the adventure begins...

After 2 flights and nearly 24 hours of travelling, we arrived at our destination in Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa, which was to be our home for the first 5 nights of our RTW trip. This safari was really a holiday within a holiday, as it was well above our shoestring budget that we will have to engage at the next stop. We were greeted by Quenton who was to be our Ranger for our stay. He talked us through the daily itinerary: morning game drive, breakfast, bushwalk, lunch, afternoon/evening game drive and then dinner. All looked impressive, apart from the challenging 5am wake up call.

First impressions of the hotel were safari picture perfect - located on the edge of a lake, thatched lodges, greenery for miles and a huge veranda to watch local Henry the Hippo bobbing his head up and down in the water. We thought we had arrived on our second honeymoon.

As we had arrived just before 2.30pm (lunch time), we quickly dumped our bags in our lodge, freshened up and followed the sound of the African beating drums to where lunch was being served. Lunch was ostrich. Have to admit, it was delicious.

At 4pm the excitement began with our first game drive and we climbed into our open-top 4x4 Land Rover...
